Choose your transfer using the journey from arrivals to your hotel door, not just the airport-to-city fare. Rail suits manageable luggage and a straightforward onward connection. A car becomes more attractive when you have several bags, a late arrival or a hotel far from a station.
First, check that your ticket says BKK, Suvarnabhumi. Don Mueang is a different airport. This guide covers arriving at BKK and travelling into Bangkok.

Make the choice before leaving arrivals
| Your situation | Start by comparing | Check before committing |
|---|---|---|
| Light luggage, travelling while rail is running | Airport Rail Link plus the onward journey | Your transfer station, final station exit and walk to the hotel |
| Several people or bulky bags | Public taxi, app-booked car or reserved transfer | Passenger and luggage capacity, total group cost and payment method |
| Late arrival or little energy for connections | A direct car journey | The correct pickup point, total charges and hotel check-in arrangements |
| Mobility needs or a child seat requirement | A provider that confirms your requirements | The actual vehicle, assistance and equipment in writing |
These are planning choices, not a promise that one option is always cheaper or faster. Compare the complete rail cost for everyone with one suitable vehicle, rather than comparing a single train ticket with a whole-car quote.
If you choose rail
AOT places the Airport Rail Link station on Level B1 of the main terminal. Follow airport signs after completing your arrival formalities. Check the departure information before buying a ticket, especially if your flight lands late. A plane's landing time is not the time you reach the station. AOT transport guide
Write your onward connection down before boarding. For a journey using the MRT Blue Line, Airport Rail Link Makkasan connects with MRT Phetchaburi BL21; BEM identifies Phetchaburi Exit 1 as the Airport Rail Link connection. Allow for the walk and a change of system. BEM Phetchaburi station
For example, if you have chosen an MRT-accessible hotel, your plan should name four things:
- The Airport Rail Link station where you change.
- The MRT station for the hotel.
- The useful exit, including any access requirements.
- The hotel entrance and the last walking or vehicle leg.
Do not treat a hotel's neighbourhood name as a station address. A room described as “Sathorn” or “Riverside” can still require a substantial final journey. Use the Bangkok area comparison before choosing a hotel, and the BTS and MRT first-ride guide for city-rail ticket and gate instructions.
If you choose a public taxi
AOT lists the public taxi queue on Level 1, between Gates 4 and 7, at the inner curb. Obtain the queue ticket and keep it through the journey. The airport describes regular and short-distance services, with separate premium electric taxi products nearby. Confirm which service you are joining rather than assuming that every taxi sign has the same tariff. AOT transport guide
Before leaving, show the driver your hotel's full address and entrance pin. For the regular public-taxi service, AOT specifies a metered fare plus an airport surcharge; check that the meter is used. Ask about possible luggage charges and how any tolls will be paid. If an off-meter price is proposed or a charge is unclear, ask the taxi service counter before departing. Keep enough suitable payment available for the agreed arrangement. If the vehicle cannot take your party and luggage comfortably, return to the service counter and ask for another option.
If you book through Grab
AOT lists Grab's designated pickup at Level 1, Gate 4, outer curb. Use the pickup instructions shown for your booking rather than waiting wherever the map first places you. AOT transport guide
Some bookings use Grab's PIN queue: the app supplies a ride PIN and directs you to a designated queue, where a driver verifies the ride. Others may show an assigned car. Follow your actual booking flow; ask the marked Grab staff if it is unclear. Check the confirmed ride details before departing. Grab's PIN instructions
Check the vehicle category and enter the correct passenger and luggage information. Read the payment and charge details before confirming. An app quote is specific to that booking, not a fixed Bangkok-wide airport fare.
If you reserve a transfer
Before paying, ask the provider to confirm:
- Where you will meet after immigration and baggage collection.
- Whether the booking uses your flight number and how delays are handled.
- When the waiting period begins and what happens if it expires.
- Which vehicle fits your group and bags.
- What the total includes, including tolls and any airport charges.
- The cancellation conditions and a contact method you can use on arrival.
Save the response and booking confirmation offline. A flight-tracking claim does not by itself explain how a late baggage arrival or missed meeting is handled; the provider's booking terms need to cover that.
Save this arrival card
Fill these in before flying:
- Airport: BKK / Suvarnabhumi
- Hotel name, full address and entrance pin:
- Preferred transfer and pickup or station:
- Final rail station and hotel leg, if relevant:
- Payment method and charges to check:
- Backup if the preferred option is unavailable:
- Hotel late check-in contact:
If rail has finished, a pickup cannot be found or the app is not working, pause inside the terminal and use a marked transport or information counter. Confirm your alternative before cancelling an existing reservation, so you understand any charge.
Check again for your arrival date
Use the airport's transport listings for current services. This guide deliberately does not give a universal city fare, a guaranteed travel time or a last-train time. Check the service you will actually use, including any onward rail connection. Airport buses are another option when their stop and operating hours fit your hotel; use the official route information rather than treating every airport bus as a city-centre shuttle.
