Before paying for a hotel in Thailand, ask for evidence about the room you would actually receive. A useful reply identifies the room category, gives measurements, shows its current bathroom and explains how you reach it. You can then compare those details with your own requirements.
This guide provides a copyable enquiry, a measurement sketch and a worksheet for comparing replies. It focuses on the hotel entrance, room and bathroom. Plan the journey from a station or airport separately.
Information checked: 7 October 2026, Thailand time. The named hotels illustrate published information; neither is an inspected or recommended accessible stay. No individual room, availability or backup arrangement has been verified directly.
Start with the features you need
Write a short list of essentials before contacting hotels. Examples include a continuous step-free route, a particular toilet transfer side, a shower seat, space beside the bed or an alert you can perceive while asleep. Separate essentials from preferences such as a balcony or view.
For a wheelchair, scooter or other mobility aid, record its dimensions in the configuration you use indoors. Include projecting parts and the space you personally need to turn, approach furniture and open a door. Explain whether you will remain in the device when using lifts. Compare with a setup that already works for you where helpful; there is no single clearance that this article can prescribe for every traveller.
Describe practical requirements in the enquiry. You can request measurements and facilities without including a diagnosis or a medical history. If you need specific equipment, name it precisely and ask who supplies it, how it is reserved and what it costs.
What an official hotel page establishes
Bangkok Marriott Hotel Sukhumvit's official overview lists roll-in showers, transfer showers and bath seats among its guest-room accessibility features. It also identifies an accessible main entrance and lifts, and directs readers to contact the hotel for more detail about rooms and services. These are the hotel's published claims. Official property overview
Our reading of that overview does not establish that all those bathroom features occur together in one room. It does not establish the door widths or transfer space in a room available for your dates. The linked accommodation page is a starting point for matching your enquiry to a bookable category; its text retrieved for this guide did not resolve those details.
Khao Lak Marriott Beach Resort & Spa's official overview lists mobility-accessible rooms and roll-in showers. Its pool features include a combined label covering either a self-operated lift or sloped entry. That leaves useful follow-up questions: which method is provided, at which pool, and is it operating for your stay? Its room list likewise leaves the proposed bathroom's measurements and layout to confirm. This shows why a specific feature label can start an enquiry without completing it.
Ask the property to connect each answer and photograph to the proposed category and layout. If room numbers cannot be allocated yet, ask which layouts exist within that category and how the required one would be secured. Keep the hotel's response alongside the reservation.
Request measurements that describe usable space
Ask for centimetres throughout, with the measurement points identified. A door panel's nominal width can differ from the opening you can pass through.
For a hinged door, request the clear gap with the door open at 90 degrees, measured between its face and the opposing door stop. Ask staff to identify any projecting fittings or other narrowing. This measurement method follows the U.S. Access Board's door guidance; its American dimensional requirements are not presented here as Thai standards or as your personal minimum.
Include the room entrance, bathroom entrance and any connecting door you need. Request threshold heights, the direction each door opens and photographs of the approach space on both sides. Ask whether assistance is needed to open heavy doors. A sufficient gap can still be difficult to approach around a tight corner.
Use this measurement map to label the hotel's own plan or photos. The sequence runs from the corridor into the room and bathroom; it represents no real hotel room and is not to scale.
| Label and location | Measurements or details to request |
|---|---|
| A — room doorway from the corridor | Clear opening, threshold and door swing |
| B — clear route inside the room | Narrowest passage and unobstructed turning space |
| C — space beside the bed | Usable space on each side; identify left/right from the foot |
| D — bed height and space underneath | Floor-to-mattress-top height; under-bed clearance if equipment needs it |
| E — bathroom doorway | Clear opening, threshold and door swing |
| F — toilet and transfer space | Seat height, transfer-side width and depth; show rails and nearby obstacles |
| G — shower | Entrance width, any lip, usable shower area and seat details |
| H — basin approach | Approach space, underside clearance and position of taps |
These are questions for the property to answer with actual figures. Leave a blank rather than inserting an assumed measurement.
Read the bathroom as a layout
Ask for a view from the bathroom doorway plus separate views of the toilet, shower and basin. A close-up of a grab rail does not show whether you can reach it or position yourself beside it.
For the toilet, specify the transfer side using a photo or marked plan to avoid ambiguity. Ask whether a bin, glass screen, wall or door swing occupies that space. For the shower, confirm the entrance lip, enclosure, seat type and position of the controls and hand-held shower. If a seat is essential, request its model, dimensions and the supplier's stated capacity, and confirm it will be reserved.
Euan's Guide treats a bathroom with a roll-in shower and a bathroom with a bath as different features. Its descriptions also consider circulation, transfer space, rails and assistance alarms. Those distinctions support asking about the whole layout; the organisation's regional dimensional criteria are not adopted here as Thai requirements. Euan's Guide feature descriptions
Ask the hotel to date the photos and confirm when the layout was last checked. Photos should show the proposed room or a genuinely matching layout, identified as such. Ask for a written description if that format is more useful to you. A recent wide-angle photo can clarify an answer, but it does not replace measurements or establish that a fitting works.
Check arrival, everyday use and the backup
Have the hotel trace the route from your actual drop-off point through reception, any lift and the corridor to the room. Ask about steps, thresholds, ramp width and slope, surfaces and any entrance that requires a key or staff assistance. Establish whether that route works at your expected arrival time and overnight.
For a required lift, request its clear door opening and cabin dimensions, plus space to approach and exit. Check the room-to-breakfast route if breakfast is part of your plan. Pool access needs a separate question about entering the water if that matters to you.
Then ask what happens if the required room, lift or equipment becomes unavailable. Request the contact responsible, how you would be notified and what alternative would be offered. Any substitute needs the same checks before you accept it. Ask for the applicable cancellation, refund or relocation terms in writing; do not assume a free alternative or refund.
Discuss emergency arrangements separately from a routine lift breakdown. Ask how staff would communicate with you and what arrangements apply if you cannot use stairs. If you need visual or vibrating alerts, confirm what is installed or reserved in your room. A general promise that staff will help leaves those practical details unresolved.

Subject: Room accessibility details for ___ (arrival date) to ___ (departure date)
Hello,
I am considering a stay at ___ (exact hotel name) for ___ (number of guests). My essential requirements are ___ (list). I use ___ (equipment, if relevant), measuring ___ (width and length) cm in use. Please reply about the room category and layout you could provide for these dates.
- Which exact room category and layout meets these requirements? Can that layout be confirmed when booking, or is it only a request subject to availability? How should I book it?
- Please describe the step-free route from ___ (drop-off point) to reception and the room. Include any ramps, thresholds, staff-operated entrances and overnight restrictions. If a lift is required, please give its clear doorway width and cabin dimensions.
- Please provide the room and bathroom door clear openings in cm, threshold heights, and the narrowest passage inside the room. For hinged doors, measure the clear gap with the door open at 90 degrees. Please show door swings and approach space.
- Please give the bed height and clear space on both sides. My required access side is ___ (identify on a photo or plan). I also need ___ (under-bed clearance or other relevant detail).
- Please show the bathroom layout, toilet seat height and transfer space, rails, basin clearance, shower entrance and any lip. Please describe and measure any shower seat. My essential bathroom requirements are ___ (list).
- Please send dated photos or a marked plan of the proposed layout, including the doorway approaches and bathroom. Identify anything photographed in a different room. Please confirm when these details were checked.
- Please confirm ___ (equipment or communication feature) availability, reservation arrangements and charges. What happens if the room, lift or equipment becomes unavailable? Please explain emergency arrangements relevant to ___ (practical requirement).
- Please provide the total price, cancellation deadline and applicable terms if the confirmed requirements cannot be supplied. Please name the person or department handling this enquiry.
Thank you. Please mark anything you cannot confirm as unknown so I can decide whether the room fits my needs.
Compare the replies before paying
Use one column per hotel and proposed layout. For every essential, mark “answered and fits,” “does not fit” or “unknown,” based on your own requirements. Attach the actual measurements and evidence; a score alone hides the detail.
| Check | Hotel / layout A | Hotel / layout B |
|---|---|---|
| Dates, category and layout secured or requested | ___ | ___ |
| Entry route and required lift | ___ | ___ |
| Door gaps, thresholds and turning space | ___ | ___ |
| Bed side and height | ___ | ___ |
| Toilet transfer space and shower setup | ___ | ___ |
| Photo date, matching room and staff check date | ___ | ___ |
| Equipment and communication requirements | ___ | ___ |
| Outage, substitution and emergency arrangements | ___ | ___ |
| Total charge, cancellation deadline and terms | ___ | ___ |
| Remaining question; person responsible | ___ | ___ |
Follow up on missing essentials with the relevant numbered question. A cheerful “yes, accessible” belongs in the unknown column until it answers what you asked. A clear “we cannot provide that” is useful evidence for choosing another option.
Before the cancellation deadline, and again near arrival, reconfirm the agreed layout and any equipment. Save the written reply, dated photos, reservation reference and hotel contact offline. At check-in, compare the allocated room with the agreed details and raise any mismatch before relying on the arrangement.
